No live steel/real weapons are allowed.  This is a rule of the Convention Center, so it is a solid rule.

FAQ / Re: Loose Kids, Inebriated Bridesmaids, and Game Room Hogs!
« on: June 22, 2012, 07:13:36 PM »
Allow me to address the issues at hand...

1- Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent at all times.  If you find that someone is doing something they should not, Flag down a member of our security staff, or a regular staffer.  We will handle any issues that arise.

2- Wedding Guests.  This is a very tricky situation.  Yes, last year, we had issues with them.  The year before, the Bride and Groom ditched their own reception to come to our dance cause we had a far better party going on.  They had a blast, and bought day passes to attend the dance.  The year before that, we had no major issues with the weddings.  One year, we had a Hockey game going on during Sogen in the arena.  The fans were extremely rude to our attendees. (we no longer hold Sogen during the Hockey Season).  So, in short, the "mundanes" are a coin flip.  They can be nice, or rude, fans, or mean.  Don't judge them, just like you don't want to be judged by them.  As above, if you have an issue, flag a security member, or a staffer.  We will have extra security during the Weddings.  Also, we cannot restrict them out of the hallways, as they paid for use of the convention center just like we did.

3- VG room.  People go to cons for different reasons.  Some like to spend most of their time in Table Top gaming, others in Video Gaming.  there is no "Right" way to spend your convention time.  If you feel someone is hogging a game, then let the VG room staff know.  they will institute timers if need be.  As for someone wanting to jump in on your single player game of DDR...if you really look at that, isn't not letting them play hogging the game?  We try and have as many multiplayer games as possible so more people can play.  Also, part of the reason Conventions are so fun is because you get to meet new people...Video gaming with someone is a great way to meet a new friend.

All in all, just remember, be respectful of everyone, both attendees, and guests of other events.  Treat them how you would want to be treated.  If something seems wrong, tell security or staff!  Most of all, have fun!

« on: May 09, 2012, 11:14:36 PM »
So, we are 3 weeks from the closure of Pre Registration.  Lets make a drive for a record number of Pre-registrations for Sogen Con.

If I can get 50 registrations, I will game for 24 straight hours. I will stream said event on some kind of streaming service, and will even allow viewers to help choose what I play at certain times. for double that, I will find a cohort to pull this marathon gaming session with me! I will do both Tabletop Games, as well as Video Games!

Lets see if we can hit that 100 mark! Due date for these registrations is May 30th.

Please share this out to better your chances!

News / Another Guest of Honor!
« on: May 08, 2012, 10:01:56 AM »
Sogen Con is happy to announce the return of Carli Mosier!

Carli is thrilled to be back at Sogen...one of her favorite conventions! At age 6 she began to develop her love for acting doing musical theatre with the Houston Independent Theatre School and opera with the Houston Grand Opera and hasn’t stopped, graduating from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, attending the musical theater program at the University of Houston and continuing on in film and stage productions throughout the Houston area. In 2004, after years in the theatre she began working at ADV Films, appearing in such shows as Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok as Tsubasa Maijima and Godannar as Kei. Carli has also been cast in the ADV titles: UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie as Princess Pharm; Moeyo Ken TV as Sayoko Yamazaki, and as Febronia and various voices in Xenosaga: The Animation. Carli is probably best known for her performance as the sexy Detective Yukika in Nerima Daikon Brothers. You can also see her as the proper, and quite often chaotic, Student Council President Yuri Kurosu in Magikano. Carli is proud to have played Rina, the Green Pearl Princess, in Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch, recorded at Amusement Park media but is saddened that it hasn't been released. She was also incredibly honored to voice Daisy in the Homecoming Episode of Halo: Legends. Carli has also lent her vocal talents as a singer to the album Voices for Tolerance alongside a multitude of talented voice actors. More recently, she’s started working for Funimation, starting out there singing the closing credit song Before Dawn in One Piece and voicing smaller characters in Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Sgt. Frog. She's also voiced Aunt Bitzi in Shin Chan, Akira Yoshii in Baka and Test and Astraea in Heaven's Lost Property. Most recently, she was cast as the Narrator and Prophetess in Night Raid: 1931, Alme in Book of Bantorra and is in Gintama, all recorded at Seraphim. When she's not recording or traveling to fabulous conventions Carli spends her time as the lead singer for the band Taylor Made, working on musical projects with her husband Dustin, writing and working on fight choreography for stage and screen, filming movies, reading about zombies and working in politics to promote women's economic and social well-being.

Toadhill Shops (aka The Kimono Ladies) will be attending this year, but with a reduced staff and less stock than in the past. Please comment if there is anything special you would like us to bring (kimono-wise, that is).

Sogen Con is very happy to announce that SWEk will be performing at this years convention!

Somewhere out there, in the vast nothingness of space and time (also
known as Eric The Drummer's basement), there arose an idea for a band.
On that fateful and blizzard-filled day in Chicago, SWEk was born.

Dale Tippett Jr. on guitar and vocals
Eric Kummerer on drums and vocals
 Janaki Jitchotvisut on lead vocals
Jon Sugerman on bass and vocals

SWEk is a band comprised primarily of anime-loving musicians, oxygen, and tears. Lots and lots of tears. Sometimes also beers. Very rarely, also bears. Come for the shockingly loud anime tunes, stay for the crazy! (Fun crazy, we promise.)

FAQ / Re: Questions for attendees
« on: February 22, 2012, 10:35:06 AM »
Another thing I was wondering about is, how easy is it to get to guest panels?
Do you often have to get in line pretty early for them, or can you afford to show up a few minutes before they start?
And what all restaurants are there nearby?

Due to the lower attendance, it is not hard at all to get into any panel you would like to see.  Any lines that form for panels are usually handled in a timely manner.

I do hope you come and see us this summer!

FAQ / Re: Weapons Policy

A good question to ask.  We will be reexamining the weapon and prop policy of the past and rewriting it so it is clear and concise.  Look for this in the future.

Sogen Con 2012 Pre-Reg

This year, Sogen is going to do it's pre reg a little bit different. Instead of basing the cost until a certain date, we are going to base the cost by how many pre-registrations have been purchased. Below you will see the cost of Pre-registration, and the schedule when it is due to go up.

2011 End of Con Pre-Registration – CLOSED

Pre-Reg cost until 150 sold - $30.00

Pre-Reg cost until 400 sold - $35.00

Pre-Reg cost until June 1st 11:59 PM - $40.00

Once pre-registration has close at the end of the day on June 1st, we will take the weekend to audit all of the sales. On June 4th, we will open up full price registration. This is to allow you the chance to pay for your badge ahead of time. With buying your badge early, you will have more money the weekend of the convention!

June 3rd through July 13th - $45.00
At the door 3 day registration - $45.00

By this new system, the earlier your register, the lower the price. As a special note, the price will go up once we have received the above stated amount of registrations. Any registration received by mail post marked before the date of an announce price increase will still be honored at the lower price. We understand that USPS can be slower then hoped. Also, the above plan is for a standard 3 day registration.

Sogen will also be offering a special tier membership. This Sponsor level membership will give you 3 day access to the convention, as well as a host of other perks.

Special Collectors Badge
Sunday Brunch with the Guests of Honor
Early entry to the Dealer Hall
A reserved seat in Main Programming. Your name will be displayed on the seat, and will remain on the seat all weekend long.
Limited Edition Sogen Con 2012 print.
A special surprise gift at the convention.

All of this for a registration price of $100.00. This sponsor level membership will be very limited, so make sure if you are interested to register as quickly as possible.

Remember, Mail in Pre-Reg opens on Monday, October 3rd.  online registration will open later in the month.
